- Client: Gallinea (iBoat Division)
- Industry: Marine, Marine Automation & Yacht Components.
The Challenge
Gallinea, an international benchmark in marine component manufacturing, turned to Quantic Innovations with a very specific need: revamping the electronic control board for their wiper systems.
The initial goal was to overcome the limitations of the existing hardware. The client needed to redesign the board by drastically optimizing physical space and reducing production costs, while ensuring the high reliability required by harsh marine conditions.
The Quantic Innovations Solution
Quantic Innovations approached the project starting with a Design-to-Cost model, later expanding technical support in response to the client's emerging needs to become an all-around strategic partner:
1. Optimized Hardware Redesign: We developed a new, compact electronic control board from scratch. Through careful component selection, we minimized physical dimensions and optimized the bill of materials (BOM), slashing production costs without compromising quality.
2. Flexible Firmware Development: New firmware was written for precise and reliable control of the wiper motors.
3. Software Evolution and Scalability: The firmware was engineered with a modular architecture. This allowed us to update and maintain it over time to adapt to multiple configurations (synchronized control of a variable number of wipers depending on the vessel) and other related applications.
4. Expansion into Marine Automation (iBoat): Extremely satisfied with the technical quality and responsiveness shown on the first project, Gallinea selected us as the technology partner for their onboard automation division. We subsequently began designing new electronic boards for mechatronic movement on yachts, such as TV lift systems and automated tables.
Results & Benefits
- Cost and Footprint Reduction: The client gained hardware that is far more economical to manufacture at scale and easier to integrate within the confined spaces of vessel dashboards.
- Reduced Time-to-Market for Variants: Thanks to firmware scalability, Gallinea was able to quickly bring different versions of the wiper system to market while reusing a single, reliable software core.
- Reliability and Technological Consistency: From a simple component supplier, Quantic Innovations became a pillar of the client's electronic development, ensuring consistent quality, reliability, and control logic across a wide range of marine automation products.
