Wireless Miniaturization

Hardware and Firmware Redesign for Next-Generation Electrostimulators.
Client & Industry
  • Client: Tesmed
  • Industry: Medical, Electrostimulators, Consumer Market

The Challenge
Tesmed, with an electrostimulator already on the market, needed to make a generational leap: transforming the existing device into a smaller, more discreet, and user-friendly solution by eliminating cables that limited its practicality. The challenge was not merely aesthetic, but above all technological:

1. Miniaturization: Redesigning the electronics for a significantly reduced form factor.

2. Cost/Power Optimization: Developing new hardware with a lower Bill of Materials (BOM) cost and higher power efficiency to ensure extended battery life.

3. Wireless Communication: Implementing a reliable communication system with the electrodes to eliminate cumbersome cable connections.

The Quantic Innovations Solution
Quantic Innovations performed a complete ground-up redesign of the control electronics:

1. Ultra-Compact Wireless Hardware: Development of a new miniaturized motherboard integrating low-power wireless connectivity (BLE/RF) to communicate efficiently with the electrodes.

2. Power-Optimized Firmware: Rewrote the firmware to handle the new wireless protocol, optimizing operating routines to minimize power consumption and significantly extend battery life.

3. Design-to-Cost: Careful component selection and PCB optimization to achieve the targeted hardware cost reduction.

4. Technical Coordination: Ongoing collaboration and support provided to the external mobile app development company, jointly defining communication protocols and data formats for seamless final integration.

Results & Benefits

  • Transformed User Experience: Cable elimination made the device much more convenient and portable, opening up new use cases for the end user.
  • Competitive Edge: The new hardware is significantly smaller and lighter, positioning the product as a cutting-edge market solution.
  • Optimized Margins: The hardware redesign achieved the target bill-of-materials (BOM) cost reduction.
  • Greater Battery Life: Firmware efficiency improvements resulted in a significant increase in the device's battery runtime.
